NHS Leeds - Leading the fight against MRSA
From 31st March 2009 national guidance is coming into place to help reduce the risk to patients of MRSA. All elective patients coming into NHS Leeds sites will be offered a screening via a simple swabbing of their nose and armpit. For the small number of patients whose result is positive they will be offered a chance to decolonise their skin and nose by using an anti-biotic nasal cream and an antiseptic body and hair wash for five days before they come in for their admission. This will help reduce the risk of infection.
